Hardwolds 40

Having run a lot of Punk Panther ultras I felt it was time to enter a Hardmoors event and see a bit more of the eastern side of Yorkshire. Their Hardwolds 40 race is approximately 47 miles (I call that value for money, as I understand it most of their Read more

With all to play for in mile 49….. February Fun

Dewsbury: another crack at a 10k PB In December I wrote a post about breaking 50 minutes for the 10k after running 49:32 at Ribble Valley. The Dewsbury 10k, always held on the first Sunday in February, offered a good opportunity to try and shave a few more seconds off. Read more

Ballot success and back to the gym!

Some thoughts about training High time to update my blog, in particular with reference to the 2 race entry ballots I wrote about in a previous post. On January 1, whilst I was running through the mud on the North Leeds Greenway Ultra, the email arrived to say I had Read more

Ballot fever

My race calendar for 2023 is taking shape, there are some definite dates in there with races entered, but two big question marks remain and I’m waiting with bated breath for ballot results coming my way on January 1st and 10th respectively. The spring is ‘sorted’. The main event will Read more

3 weeks ago I ran the @nav4adventure Lady Anne’s Way 75 mile race from Skipton to Appleby. When I say ‘ran’ that should not be taken too literally….there was an awful lot of slipping, sliding and slithering involved. You could say it was ‘a little muddy underfoot’. And rain ☔️ overhead. It didn’t look like the photograph that’s for sure! That one is from the recce. Still, it’s an event I would really recommend. Have a read and see if you could be tempted to have a go at this lovely low-key race in one of the most beautiful bits of England. Link 🔗 in bio.

A great bunch of us @ilkleyharriers ❤️💚 hiked, jogged, ran or cycled up and down from @lastazioneilkley to Keighley Gate. Each loop is 4 miles and over 900ft of ascent. This whole venture in support of the wonderful @shaunna.burke who is living with incurable cancer and is set to climb Everest again, having first done so in 2005. I went up and down to the Gate 8 times today, nothing too extraordinary for an ultra runner, but I can assure it was getting a bit painful towards the end 😖 as it’s all pretty steep. Any donations to this wonderful cause very much welcome! 🙏

A week ago today I set out on the brilliant @centurionrunning #winterdowns100 race. It felt tough at the time, but I had a pretty good race really (especially looking back 😉). Read all about it, as usual it’s quite long as I like to ramble on a bit….feel free to just look at the fabulous pictures instead!

People often ask me why I run long ultras that go People often ask me why I run long ultras that go through the night. Sunsets, sunrises and the peace of night running are always the ingredients that come to mind first. And on this weekend’s @centurionrunning #winterdowns100 ❄️ we were lucky with some spectacular displays on either side of the long 16 hour night. I don’t often take pics on a race but this time I had to make an exception.

Recceing (most of) next month’s @centurionrunning Recceing (most of) next month’s @centurionrunning #winterdowns100 For 3 days I ran/walked/jeffed/shuffled from Amberley to Farnham, staying overnight in Buriton and New Alresford on the way. I travelled along the #southdownsway #wayfarerswalk and #stswithunsway The November weather was kind to me, mild and without much of a breeze, just a bit dull. Lovely autumn colours 🍂 🍁 I checked out all the water taps 🚰 en route, seeing there will only be 3 check points. There are plenty of taps! Not that I drink much in winter anyway. Logistics made easy by excellent rail 🚂 connections. Looking forward to the race 🏃‍♀️🏁
