Solo 23 mile recce today from Osmotherley to Helms Solo 23 mile recce today from Osmotherley to Helmsley, the final section of the #hardmoors110 Taxi 🚕 back to my car. Expensive but it was worth checking this section out, as no doubt my brain will not be at its sharpest for these final miles on the actual event. Very sunny in contrast to yesterday’s dull day, but it was at times a tad warm for running. No particularly exciting features like Victorian funicular tramways, but I enjoyed looking at so many beautiful trees at their late spring best.

Lovely to have the company of @andy.407 who knows this stretch like the back of his hand and will be tackling the #hardmoors160 🏃‍♂️‍➡️💪💪 Makes me feel as if I am doing the fun run 😂 We ran from Saltburn-by-the-Sea to Kildale.
Hard to believe but I had never been to Saltburn, neither had I been up Roseberry Topping or seen Captain Cook’s Monument. The latter was a bit of a disappointment to be honest! Best just seen from afar perhaps.
Fab long weekend volunteering at the @scarpa @grea Fab long weekend volunteering at the @scarpa @greatlakeland3day by @oureaevents helping to look after around 500 runners at the event centre in Threlkeld and the overnight camp in St. John’s in the Vale. A lot of hard graft but a fab team to work with, great guidance from the permanent staff, and lots of insights gained into the nuts and bolts of the event. Plentiful nice chats with participants who all seemed very happy. Some downtime too and enjoyed a nice walk down to Thirlmere with some fellow volunteers. We were fed wonderfully well by the catering team, better food than I cook myself! Mostly sunny during the day but with a cold wind, thank goodness for the 4 insulated jackets I brought, and absolutely baltic at night 🥶 Should have taken my 4 season sleeping bag 🤦‍♀️
Well, I might even have a go at this event next year myself!

Which is more or less what I did. If you would like to read the full 7500 word low-down, or just look at some pretty pictures, the link is in my linktree in the bio.

It’s going to take a little time to process the It’s going to take a little time to process the experiences I had during the 92 hours it took me to ‘run’ from the Irish Sea to the North Sea on the brilliant @thenortherntraverse
About 200 of us set off on Saturday morning from St. Bees and I arrived in Robin Hood’s Bay on Wednesday at 5 am having covered 195 miles. No back pain, no lean, and last year’s DNF has been solidly put to bed now. Thanks to all the brilliant staff and volunteers from @oureaevents you were all just amazing, thanks to all my friends old and new on the trail, and to the home front supporting me with lots of messages of encouragement. There will be blog post with lots of nice pictures in due course, but first there are going to be a few days of eating 🥣 and sleeping 🛌

After last year’s event where I ground to a sorry halt in a field 4 miles outside of Richmond I am having another crack at this race. At least this time no uninvited named storms (I am talking about you Kathleen 💨)to keep us company. I am going to take it steady with plenty of stops in the hope that this time my back will hold out. Fingers crossed that strategy as well as all the strength training 🏋️‍♂️ will pay dividend and get me to Robin Hood’s Bay. Whatever happens I am planning to have a fab time on the trails!
New blog post alert 🚨 It’s only a short post New blog post alert 🚨 It’s only a short post compared to my usual (over) long writings, but then it was only a ‘short’ race 😂 50km, blink and it’s over and done. No mega packs to carry, no head torches, no sleep kit! The Hundred Hills 50k was my first @centurionrunning race and I loved 🥰 it! I shall be back for sure. Maybe something a little longer….😉 If you would like to have a read the link is in my link tree in the bio.

My very first @centurionrunning race! The #centuri My very first @centurionrunning race! The #centurionhundredhills 50k And ace it was too: lovely runnable and fully marked course with A LOT of hills (OK the uphills are not runnable), 5 checkpoints with super friendly volunteers, beautiful medal, and hot food at the finish. They had even laid on the weather ☀️ for us. 2nd F60 and sub 6:30, happy with that. Thanks to @jameselsonator and everyone at Centurion, I will be back for more!
